The Dawning of Kanazawa for piano solo "Uguisu Ake no myojo ni"
<<Piano Score>>
<Arranger> Mukai,Hibiki
When I saw craft objects in Kanazawa, it seemed to me that c
racks of celadon pottery set off the essential beauty of por
celain. I was deeply fascinated by the beauty and stimulated
to write this work. The first piece mainly consists of penta
tonic scale comprised of the black keys on the piano.
The white keys assume a role of setting off the beauty of th
e pentatonic melodies like cracks. In the second piece, the
black keys and white keys exchange their roles.
The piece is mainly built around the white keys, and the bla
ck keys play a role as cracks. In the third piece, the penta
tonic themes of the black keys and the white keys appear in
parallel and they were resolved in an irregular time.
Melodies come and go on the black keys and white keys at sho
rt intervals.Using limited tones and modes, I aimed to encou
rage a pianist to add shadows with his/her own tone colors.
Even so, as the work doesn't depend on the performer, I meti
culously tried to create mixed tone colors and their contras
ting density.Kyoka Izumi, a writer who wrote many works set
in Kanazawa, composed a poem about Kanazawa: 'Utsukusi-ya Ug
uisu Ake no myojo ni. (The bush warbler is so beautiful with
the morning star.)' When I visited Kanazawa,it was raining
in the beautiful town. Thanks to the rain, the town looked b
eautiful all the more, and I thought of the old capital that
many artists had admired.I gave a Japanese title to this wo
rk after Kyoka's poem cited above but I didn't take the fir
st word Utsukushi-ya (so beautiful), as I think each person
has his/her own imagine and focus on their own first word.
