Dream Land

For medium-advanced choirs, Ivo Antongnini's Dreamland is a harmonically lush setting of Christina Rossetti's evocative text. The composer weaves a simple, yet poignant, melodic figure through a tapestry of jazz-influenced chords and tone clusters.
The piece sets the text remarkable well, carefully painting each word, and arriving at a glorious climax on the phrase "rest ... till timie shall cease" The conclusion of the piece is tender, introspective, with the text "perfect peace." For SATB divisi, this piece provides a charming and thoughtful addition to a choral program.

La Mia Stella

The sun was shining on a beautiful morning, while the composer peacefully read the newspaper. A photograph caught his eye of a boat with three hundred Africans on board. He read the caption: unfortunately, many of them will not arrive alive on the shores of Lampedusa, in the Mediterranean Sea. He stared attentively at the picture, and among the many distraught faces one stands out above the rest, a child with wide eyes, hands holding tight on the arms of an adult. He was moved, and felt a duty to do something for this poor creature.
La mia stella is dedicated to the child and to all those that are forced to flee from their homeland in hopes of finding, after long and frightening journeys, a better life. Nyota yangu means "My star" in the Swahili language, spoken by tribes of the eastern coast of Africa.

O Fortuna

The text of O Fortuna comes from a collection of poems called Carmina Burana, written by the goliards dating back to the 13th centry. In Roman mythology Fortuna was a goddess, a personification of luck. The poem is a complaint about fate (Fortuna) and my harmonic setting tries to emphasis this aspect (furioso, which means infuriated, wild, furious, is the tempo text)
The composer found the lyric so magic, vibrating, farsighted and still alive norwadays. O Fortuna, just as the moon stands constantly changing ... just like the music. Enjoy it!
