The Japanese Requiem, using Japanese ancient Shinto requiem, elegies and parting songs of the poet Kakinomotono Hitomaro who represents the anthology Manyo-syu, and several Latin requiems as texts. Composed and first performed as a ceremonial music for victims of the Great Hanshin/Awaji Earthquake in 1995.
